An Original Vintage Paperbacked Austrian Political Campaign Poster (measures 37 1/2" x 49 3/4" [95 x 126 cm]) (Learn More) Kriegsanleihe (literally translates to "War Loan"), the 1923 Austrian political poster encouraging Austrians to vote for the Social Democratic Party of Austria. This party at this time was rabidly anti-Semitic and anti immigration to Austria, and one of the platforms of their party was to "take back" Austria from the people they felt had gained control over the country, and this poster is filled with vile anti-Semitism and attacks on other groups, including the following: "every German must finally know that he is no longer master of his country, that his country has passed to Jews, Frenchmen, Czechs, and so on, and that he is nothing more than a workhorse for them". There is a great deal more along these same lines, which you can read by translating the text into English. The main theme is that Austrians were "fooled" into giving away their country after World War I and that they should not be fooled again, and must vote for the Social Democratic Party to take back the country. The poster also features anti-Semitic art of smiling overweight Jewish bankers and poor Austrian workers. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster had many creases and scuffs along the folds. It had some scuffs scattered in the white background areas. It had some small brown stains near the center of the red text area. It had tiny paper loss in the center of the bottom border with some small tears in the borders and light brown stains scattered in the bottom 1-2" of the poster, with pinholes in the corners. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was attached to a thin paper backing with a slight excess on each border. No restoration was performed (it was paperbacked solely to better conserve the poster). Learn More about condition grades
