Note that we have see two versions of this poster, one encouraging people to join the Naval Reserve or Coast Guard, and the other encouraging people to join the Navy (with a "Be a man and do it" tagline). Artist: Howard Chandler Christy Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this classic World War I poster, and that was 6 years ago, when it sold for $2,250! Also note that this poster was used at a specific recruiting station in St. Joseph, so they had it overprinted with their location at the bottom (that space was left blank specifically for that reason). What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster was never folded. It had tears and paper loss down the left and right borders, with a few tears and tiny bits of paper loss scattered in small parts of the image. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking.
