Note that this was one of the nine wonderful movies that Astaire and Rogers made between 1933 and 1939 (they made one final movie, "The Barkleys of Broadway", thirteen years later in 1949). Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this "blue title" style first release half-sheet, and that was 9 years ago. That example has now been reconsigned to us, so this is still the only example of this poster we have ever auctioned! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair to good. The poster was never folded. It had some creases scattered near the center of the image. It also had a 4" tear near the middle of the left border, extending into Astaire's chin. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. Very unfortunately, something severe happened to the poster, and it both faded (primarily in the red colors), but it also acquired a lot of brown water stains scattered throughout, more so in the bottom right corner, but also in other parts of the image and in all the borders (and also in the excess linen in places). If I owned this great poster, I would surely have a talented restorer remove it from the linen backing. Hopefully, some of the brown staining can be removed through chemical means, but even if not, paint restoration can be performed to make the poster display much better. But certainly, the poster has very significant defects, and while it can be "rescued", please read our description above and look at our super-sized image before placing a bid on this poster.
