An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) Niagara, the 1953 Henry Hathaway marital problems romantic melodrama ("Marilyn Monroe and 'Niagara' a raging torrent of emotion that even nature can't control!"; "Marilyn Monroe and Niagara, the high water mark in suspense"; set at the famous Niagara Falls waterfall in New York state and Canada; about two couples visiting the famous landmark, one on their honeymoon, and the other in a very disturbing relationship, which leads to a death, which may be murder) starring Marilyn Monroe, Joseph Cotten, Jean Peters, Casey Adams, Denis O'Dea, Richard Allan, Don Wilson, Lurene Tuttle, Russell Collins, and Will Wright. Note that Marilyn Monroe was given the lead in this movie, but she was not yet a major star. Her performance in this film, and the iconic gigantic image of her laying atop the famous waterfall with the water running over her body helped her career massively! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: good. This poster was linenbacked, but it was either NOT linenbacked by a very talented restorer, or it was linenbacked many years ago, and has received rough handling over the years. You can see signs of the restoration even from a distance. This is a poster that would greatly benefit from additional professional restoration. See below for this poster's pre-restoration condition (we are the only major auction company we know of that shares this information with our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). good. There was an uneven 7" tear that starts in the right of the top border 1" to the left of Marilyn's arm and extends diagonally down and across the background area ending 1" above her body. There is a 1" x 2" diamond-shaped area of paper loss at the top of the above tear. There was separation and tiny paper loss across the top foldline. There were some water stains and smudges in the white background areas in the middle and bottom of the poster. There were pinholes, stains, smudges, and a few small tears around the edges of the poster. The person who restored the poster did not leave any excess linen around the edges. This poster is an ideal candidate for re-linenbacking! If the poster is re-backed, the restorer can surely make the poster's defects much less noticeable (there is really not much paper loss anywhere on the poster, except in the area at the top that is background only), and the poster will look great, and not be "heavily restored"!
