An Original Vintage Theatrical Laminated Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More)

The Mark of the Vampire, the 1935 Tod Browning horror thriller ("You will not dare believe... what your eyes see!"; "These two strange symbols meant 'marked for death'!"; "Important! Do not divulge the secret of 'Mark of the Vampire' to your friends... let them by mystified... and thrilled!"; based on the story 'The Hypnotist' by Tod Browning; about a father and daughter vampire team in an unnamed European country, and naturally, wherever they go, people are found dead) starring Lionel Barrymore, Elizabeth Allan, Bela Lugos (as Count Mora)i, Lionel Atwill, Jean Hersholt, Carroll Borland (as Luna, a female vampire; Borland was a huge Lugosi fan who wrote a script intended for him and appeared in this movie with him, which was only one of six movies she appeared in!), Holmes Herbert, and James Bradbury Jr. Note that director Tod Browning had incredible success with Dracula in 1931, but Freaks in 1933 was a major failure (at the time), and he was trying to regain his former glory with this movie, which was very loosely based on another major success, London After Midnight, which starred Lon Chaney Sr.!

Important Added Info: Note that posters from this Tod Browning horror movie are incredibly rare. We have only once auctioned a poster, which was a window card, in 2003, which sold for $14,722! We have never auctioned a lobby card, until we were consigned this one! Note that this lobby card has been laminated! It is quite likely that there is no way to reverse this process. However, I have seen many lobby cards that have been laminated for over 20 years, and the lamination does not hurt the cards in any way, plus it seems to completely protect them, while allowing them to be easily displayed with no fear of damage. HOWEVER, PLEASE DO NOT BID ON THIS LOBBY CARD UNLESS YOU WANT TO PURCHASE A LAMINATED LOBBY CARD! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Finally, note that this card has a stamp on the back that indicates it came from the legendary horror/sci-fi collection of Ron Borst (the stamp reads "FROM THE COLLECTION OF Ronald V. Borst")!

Condition: good. The card had darkened and had staple holes in the corners, with some odd purple scuffing in the center of the image, in the girl's arm. There was a pair of staple holes in the back of Barrymore's hair and in the middle of the left background. The back of the card had darkened very unevenly. Someone likely tried to touch up the scuffing in the center of the card and then had it laminated (see above). It is virtually a certainty that the lamination can't be reversed, so PLEASE DO NOT BID ON THIS LOBBY CARD UNLESS YOU WANT TO PURCHASE A LAMINATED LOBBY CARD!
