This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair to good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster had many creases, smudges, and some faint stains scattered throughout. Overall, the poster was in fair to good condition prior to paperbacking. Someone paperbacked the poster, and either did minimal restoration to the poster, or it acquired more defects after it was backed, because there is now a brown stain in Eastwood's chin, and there is staining around and to the left of the title, so though a snipe was once glued over there. In addition, the poster was definitely very roughly handled, because there is now a 3" tear in the right of the top border and some long horizontal creases in the top of the poster, including one going through the top of the gun. There are similar creases in the bottom of the poster and some lesser ones scattered throughout the poster. If I owned this poster, I would surely give it to a talented restorer, so that they could properly re-back it, but that surely will be expensive, so bear this in mind before placing a bid on this poster.
