An Original Vintage Theatrical Autographed Movie Pressbook (pb; measures 12" x 18" [30 x 46 cm]; 28 pages) (Learn More) Citizen Kane, the classic 1941 Orson Welles (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) biographical newspaper journalism melodrama ("Some called him a hero... Others called him a heel"; "It's Terrific!"; loosely based on the life of William Randolph Hearst; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; many people consider it the finest movie ever made) starring Orson Welles (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; in the title role as Charles Foster Kane), with the members of Welles' "Mercury Actors", who had previously acted with him on stage, Joseph Cotten (as Jedediah Leland), Dorothy Comingore (as Susan Alexander Kane), Everett Sloane (as Mr. Bernstein), Ray Collins (as Jim W. Gettys), George Coulouris (as Walter Parks Thatcher), Agnes Moorehead (as Mary Kane, Kane's mother), Paul Stewart (as Raymond), Ruth Warrick (as Emily Monroe Norton Kane), Erskine Sanford (as Herbert Carter), William Alland (as Jerry Thompson), Fortunio Bonanova (as Signor Matiste), Buddy Swan (as Kane at age 8), Harry Shannon (as Kane's father), and Alan Ladd (in one of his early incredibly tiny parts, but he does have a single speaking line!) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this pressbook has been personally autographed (signed) by Ruth Warrick! She signed on the inside front cover, where she wrote "To Ira - We share a passion, Love, Ruth Warrick, Emily Norton Kane". Our consignor is a longtime dealer who acquired this signed item among many other purchases in his inventory, and he does not have a certificate of authenticity, but we believe the signature to likely be authentic. Note that we have never auctioned this pressbook before, so we are not certain how many pages it should have. This one has 20 pages, plus two 4-page sections, which may be part of the pressbook, making it 28 pages, or they may be supplements to the pressbook. Condition: fair, WITH CUTS. The covers of the pressbook are separated from each other. There is a section of the back cover that represents approximately one-third of the back cover that is missing. There is a portion of the bottom left of the back cover that is separated from the rest. The missing area on the back cover affects two-thirds of the B one-sheet, two-thirds of the three-sheet, two-thirds of the B half-sheet, one-quarter of the six-sheet, and all of the A one-sheet. On the reverse side, it affects some of the items pictured on that side as well. The front cover has some tears and paper loss around the edges, and creases and scuffs where it was folded near the middle. Obviously, one would much prefer to find a complete example of this pressbook, but it is incredibly rare. Learn More about condition grades
