An Original Vintage Exhibitor Magazine (measures 8 1/2" x 11" [22 x 28 cm]; 16 pages) (Learn More)

Posters, the magazine published by Publix Art Dept. of New York City and sent to theater owners to help them better create local theater posters! It was apparently published beginning in 1930, and we know there were at least nine issues. Each issue was solely sent to the Publix theater chain, where each theater would create posters to put on display, often cutting up one-sheets, three-sheets, or six-sheets, and pasting them onto deco backgrounds. Each issue had one full-color silkscreen art portrait of a star, with many examples of homemade posters that could be created from studio-issued posters and stills. These magazines are incredibly rare and I have only ever seen a few different issues, even though I have been looking for them for decades. Please look at our images to get a sense of what this magazine is and what it contains!
Artist: Wellington
Important Added Info: Note that this auction is for issue #8, which has color deco Wellington art of a female holding up a circle like Atlas holding the world. It also contains 16 pages of hand created posters from several movies, including "For the Defense" with Kay Francis and William Powell, Harold Lloyd in "Feet First", Eddie Cantor in "Whoopee", and Ernst Lubitsch's "Monte Carlo".

Note that we have provided a picture of the front cover of the magazine, and also pictures of one or more interior two-page spreads (but we didn't make much effort to find the best ones!). These images should greatly help you judge the overall condition of the magazine. Please realize that sometimes there were only a few ads in each magazine, and sometimes quite a few, but that often the bulk of each magazine is taken up by stories about current productions and other information of interest to theater owners (and I don't know that this information can be found anywhere else or that it has been reproduced in any book since its first publication!). Please know that these magazines are sealed in bags and are ready for shipping, and we cannot answer any questions about them or look through them for you, so please bid (or do not bid) based on the images we have provided.

Condition: very good. Note that we checked every page of this magazine and it is complete and uncut. Most exhibitor magazines show clear signs of wear because they were used by exhibitors to decide what movies to order. We have provided an overall description of the condition of the magazine, and also several images of interior pages, plus the cover, and those will help you to judge the condition of this magazine.
