An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Style B Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) The Hitch-Hiker, the 1953 Ida Lupino serial killer crime film noir ("Who'll be his next victim... You?"; "-there's Death in his upraised Thumb!"; "Screenplay by Collier Young and Ida Lupino"; based on a true story, about two men who go fishing and pick up a hitchhiker on the way, but he turns out to be a crazy psychopathic killer, and he plays a bizarre game of cat and mouse with them) starring Frank Lovejoy, Edmond O'Brien, William Talman, Jose Torvay, and Sam Hayes. Note that nowadays the word "hitchhiker" is written as a single word, but back in 1953, it was hyphenated, so that is how the title was written on the posters and in the movie itself. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this unmarked style B half-sheet is extremely rare! We have never auctioned it before. It has what is likely the very best image of any poster for this movie! Also note that this poster is not marked, but it is NOT the style A poster, and since we know that there IS a style A poster on this title, we assume that this poster is the style B, so we are referring to it in that fashion. Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. Note that because this poster was paperbacked onto a thin paper backing, it can be sent rolled (however, it will be rolled with the image outward, because paperbacked posters should always be rolled that way, while linen posters are always rolled with the image inward), and it will likely need to be sent in a 6" tube, because rolling it more tightly might damage the poster. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and some tiny bits of paper loss on parts of both folds. It had areas of paper loss in the top half of the left blank border extending into the top left corner of the image background. There is also paper loss in the bottom left corner, entering the bottom left corner of the background and affecting the copyright printing below it. It had a diagonal crease running from the top center of the image background across the background area and through the man's shoulder. It had some other creases and scuffs scattered throughout. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well, but you can see some signs of the restoration it has had.
