Date Sold 8/16/2018Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Title Lobby Card (LC TC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Charlie Chan in Shanghai, the 1935 James Tinling China Asian detective mystery opium drug smuggling crime thriller ("Based on the character 'Charlie Chan' created by Earl Derr Biggers") starring Warner Oland (in the title role as Charlie Chan), Irene Hervey, Jon Hall (billed as "Charles Locher"), Russell Hicks, and Keye Luke. Note that the very first Charlie Chan movie was "House Without a Key" in 1925, with George Kuwa as Chan. In 1927, "The Chinese Parrot" (directed by Paul Leni) starred Sojin Kamiyama as Chan. In 1929 came the third movie, "Behind That Curtain", starring E.L. Park as Charlie Chan. 1931 brought "Charlie Chan Carries On", starring Warner Oland in the first of many movies with him as the Asian detective, and he was later replaced by Sidney Toler and then Roland Winters (there would ultimately be 47 Charlie Chan movies!). Of course, Charlie Chan is one of the most memorable literary creations ever, from author Earl Derr Biggers, but because politically correct-minded people have viewed the character as outdated, the movies are rarely shown, which is a shame! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this title card is extremely rare. We have never auctioned it before! Not only that, but we have only auctioned three scene lobby cards, and two of those were in "fair to good" condition, and the one that was "very good" sold for $1,625! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: very good. There is small paper loss in the top right blank corner. There is a tiny tear with a tiny bit of paper loss in the center of the bottom blank border. There are a few pinholes and a tiny tear in the top left corner that was repaired with a small piece of clear tape from the back. There is a faint stain in the left of the top blank border, with a few tiny tack holes in other parts of the blank borders. Other than the above defects, which only affect blank white border areas, the card is in really nice condition! Because its defects are almost completely in the blank borders, we feel it still merits a "very good" grade, because it is otherwise in such nice condition. Learn More about condition grades
