An Original Vintage Theatrical Window Card Movie Poster (measures 14" x 22") (Learn More) A Notorious Gentleman, the 1935 Edward Laemmle mental illness murder mystery crime thriller (a really interesting story of a deranged lawyer who decides he not only wants to commit the "perfect murder", but also to frame his fiancee for it, while pretending to be helping her, and everything is working perfectly until her lawyer figures out what occurred) starring Charles Bickford, Helen Vinson, John Darrow, Dudley Digges, Sydney Blackmer, and Onslow Stevens. Note that director Edward Laemmle has been largely forgotten by film history, but he has a VERY interesting biography! He is the nephew of Carl Laemmle, who persuaded him to leave his electrical engineering career in 1915 and join him at his recently opened Universal Studios. He started as an assistant director, mainly under John Ford. In 1917, he went to New Guinea to produce a movie about the natives there, and was shipwrecked, and spent two years among the Kia Kia cannibals! This adventure was re-created in the movie "Shipwrecked Among Cannibals", which became the first million dollar movie for Universal Studios. Edward Laemmle went on to direct roughly 50 movies, and had many famous assistants, including William Wyler! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: good. many water stains at the left center of the image (unfortunately right over the face of the man in that position); a lesser number of water stains throughout the card; diagonal crease in the lower left corner; This is the sort of poster that responds well to restoration. After paperbacking by a good restorer, the poster would look great and there would not be much paint anywhere on the poster! This window card is in "lesser" condition (it is clearly in less than "very good" condition, and may be all the way down to "fair" condition, as we are selling a collection of early window cards that were found inside of a wall, and those all have water stains and other defects, which should be easily seen on our large images)! This window card has clear defects, which are likely to be very noticeable in our "large" or "super-sized" images that you can click on from our small image at right. In addition, we have also noted in words what these defects are in our "Description of Defects" section above, as some of these defects may not be all that visible in the images. We know that some collectors could accept this window card's defects, and display it as is, and we also know that many collectors would only be happy with this window card if they had it restored, so please do not bid on it unless you can accept it as it is, or are willing to pay to have it properly restored. Of course, you should realize that if you do not bid on this window card because of its condition defects, it may be quite some time before you see this window card offered again!
