Date Sold 11/4/2018Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 14" x 22" [36 x 56 cm]) (Learn More) The Most Dangerous Game (released in England as "Hounds of Zaroff"), the 1932 Irving Pichel & Ernest B. Schoedsack mystery adventure horror thriller ("Fascinating, strange and terrible is the story of Zaroff, who hunted men like animals for a sporting thrill"; '"The finest specimens I ever killed"'; produced by Merian C. Cooper; based on the story 'The Most Dangerous Game' by Richard Connell, one of many movies based on this classic story!) starring Joel McCrea, Fay Wray, Leslie Banks (as Zaroff), Robert Armstrong, and Noble Johnson. Note that this movie was filmed simultaneously with "King Kong", so many of the actors, sets, and sound effects from King Kong were used in this movie! Also note that Leslie Banks was a distinguished English stage actor who made his first movie appearance in this most unusual movie (the IMDb claims he was in a 1921 movie, but we don't know that that is accurate, and he surely did not have a leading role)! Important Added Info: Note that this is only the second time we have auctioned this window card in all our years of auctioning! The first example, which we auctioned in 2015, was somewhat faded throughout and originally had faint stains scattered throughout, and it was bleached, but not backed. THIS example was found in a frame, and it had been trimmed to 12" x 16", which lost 2" from the left and top of the image, plus the entire top blank area. But the 12" x 16" part that was present was in really nice condition, with colors that had not faded! A really talented restorer replaced the missing areas at left and top, and we leave it to bidders to decide the relative merits of the two cards (the past one, with many defects throughout, or this one with missing areas, but otherwise nice condition). Condition: good. As described above, the card was trimmed to 12" x 16". Otherwise, it had extremely minor wear and the colors were bright, especially the reds, which fade so easily (as they had somewhat in the other example we auctioned). A talented restorer took pieces from a different card and recreated the missing image areas at left and top, and joined them together without backing the card onto a paper backing. So the card still looks "original", and of course, most of the image area is, but you can see the replaced areas when you turn over the card and view the back. The restoration was done really wonderfully, and from any reasonable viewing distance, the card displays really well, but when you look at it very closely, you can clearly see where the replaced areas are (see our super-sized image).
