eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 2h0047 JULES FEIFFER signed letter 1977 invited to comicon, declined, but wanted Abbie & Slats #1! Date Sold 6/12/2022Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Autographed Letter (measures 8 1/2" x 11" [22 x 28 cm]) (Learn More) Jules Feiffer is a cartoonist, writer, illustrator, and playwright from the 1950s to the present. He is best known for his long running Pulitzer Prize winning syndicated comic strip Feiffer, which ran in The Village Voice for 42 years, and he was the first opinion-editorial page cartoonist for The New York Times from 1997 to 2000, and he also wrote the screen plays for several movies including: Little Murders, Carnal Knowledge, and Popeye. He was a major comic book fan before almost anyone else was, and in 1965, he convinced the publishers of mainstream comics to allow him to reprint (in full color) the origin stories of Superman, Batman, and many others in a hardcover book called "The Great Comic Book Heroes", and that surely was a major factor in the birth of the modern comic book collecting hobby! As of 2022, he is still alive at the age of 93! Important Added Info: Note that this letter has been personally autographed (signed) by Jules Feiffer (on his personal stationery, telling a man who ran a comicon that he can attend and telling him that he is looking for a copy of the comic "Abbie & Slats" #1, or early issues of Tip Top Comics with Abbie & Slats)! While Mr. Feiffer obtained fame as a newspaper and magazine cartoonist, he was very much a major comic book fan (see above). Our consignor was the person who had written Mr. Feiffer about his comicon, and he saved this letter from 1977 to now. He does not have a certificate of authenticity, but we feel certain the signature is authentic. As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction. On non-signed items, we give a "lifetime guarantee" on everything we auction, but on signed items, we give the above modified guarantee of 30 days after the auction closes. Condition: very good.
