A Group of 2 Original Vintage Theatrical Movie 8 1/4" x 10" [21 x 25 cm] Key Book Stills (mounted to linen, back to back; see below) (Learn More) Earl Carroll was a theatrical producer, director and songwriter from the 1920s to the 1940s. Some of his works include: Earl Carroll's Vanities, Earl Carroll's Sketch Book, and Murder at the Vanities. He passed away in 1948 at the age of 54 in an airplane crash. Important Added Info: Note that the Earl Carroll Theatre opened on Sunset Blvd in Hollywood in December 1938, and naturally, sexy Earl Caroll girls were hired to promote this opening! These key books show the girls by a great billboard for this theater, which was advertised as the "world's largest motion picture theatre"! Note that these stills are key book stills, mounted to a linen backing. Sometimes key books would consist of stills that were mounted to linen on both sides of the linen, and it is likely near impossible to separate them, and this is one of those cases, where each still is on the back of the other, so the winner of this auction will likely only be able to display one side, unless they can separate them somehow. Many studios spent extra money to have their most special photos, the key book stills, either backed with linen or printed on a heavy paper, both of which enhanced their durability. They had an extra 1" at the left or top, with punch holes, because of how they were stored. Key book stills are far more rare than regular stills, which has increased their popularity among collectors, since only a few keybooks were manufactured per film, and a key book still is guaranteed to be authentic. Condition: very good. Remember that the stills are back to back, and likely can't be separated (see above). Learn More about condition grades
