An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More)

Alfred Hitchcock's To Catch a Thief, the 1955 Alfred Hitchcock romantic crime mystery thriller ("It's a web of romance and suspense that spins you from delight to danger - then spirals to an explosive climax on the fabulous Riviera!"; "Based on the novel by David Dodge"; "Screenplay by John Michael Hayes"; about a retired jewel thief living on the Riviera, and there is a string of daring jewel robberies, so naturally, he is the lead suspect, and he decides to find the true thief himself, and he is aided by a beautiful rich young woman and her mother!) starring Cary Grant, Grace Kelly, Jessie Royce Landis, John Williams, Charles Vanel, Brigitte Auber, Rene Blancard, Georgette Anys, and Jean Martinelli. Note that Cary Grant had announced his retirement from movies in 1953, but he was lured out of retirement by Hitchcock to make this one. Also note that Jessie Royce Landis, who had played Grant's mother in "North by Northwest", this time played his potential mother-in-law, and yet, she was only eight years older than Grant, who had aged very well!

Condition: good to very good. The poster has paper loss in the top right blank corner and paper loss in the far left of the top blank border, caused by rough removal of pins, but only blank white paper is missing. There are also pinholes in the corners and in the middle of the top and bottom borders. The ones in the center of the bottom border were roughly removed, causing tears and paper loss, and someone put masking tape on the back of that area many years ago, and one piece of it slightly bled through to the front of the bottom blank border, but not really in the dark area above it, although there is paper loss in that area that has a piece of masking tape behind part of it (see our image). There are small brown stains near the middle of the poster, in the top of the second "C" of "CATCH" and in the top of the "A" to the right of that. There are creases and small tears on parts of some folds and creases scattered throughout the poster. There was separation on the back of the left 3" of the bottom horizontal fold and someone put wide paper tape on the back of that area. There are vertical creases scattered in the right blank border. I detail these many defects because this is a valuable poster, but it is the sort that responds really well to expert restoration. After linenbacking by a talented professional, it will look great, and it will require only a little paint within the image, primarily in the paper loss in the background at bottom center.
