An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Campaign Book (measures 9 1/2" x 12 1/2" [24 x 32 cm]; 60 pages) (Learn More)

The Big Parade of Stars, the 1927 MGM campaign book ("King of them all") featuring images and information about upcoming MGM movie releases for the 1927-28 season. Note that in the two years preceding this, MGM had campaign books with tipped-in 8" x 10" sepia and black & white images of the stars. Apparently, this year, they probably decided that it was not worth doing this, and they instead printed really nice full-color artwork images of their top stars within pages that have biographies of them. They also have several pages of great artwork ads for the upcoming films, including Lon Chaney in The Hypnotist (which was the working title for London After Midnight, the famous lost film), Lillian Gish in Annie Laurie, and Greta Garbo in Love. There is a great 2-page spread on Our Gang, and the Our Gang kids are also pictured on a different page. Note that even though this campaign book was sent to many theater owners, it appears that very few examples have survived. I have been a collector of campaign books and related material for many years, and I know for certain that this campaign book is extremely rare! Finally, note that campaign books in general are extremely rare, and the best of them have often sold for hundreds of dollars, and in the case of the very finest, thousands of dollars!

Important Added Info: Note that we have pictured the cover of the hardcover, the interior full-color "cover", and seven interior 2-page spreads from this campaign book

Condition: very good. There is writing and a date on the top of the cover in the blank white area. There are many smudges and stains on the covers. The binding is in good condition, as are the interior pages (see our images).
