Gitanes are sold in many varieties of strengths and packages. The cigarette was originally made with a darker or brun (brown) tobacco, in contrast to the more widespread blonde. In honor of the name, the packet shows the silhouette of a Spanish gypsy woman playing the tambourine. The poster was never folded. It had a few tiny tears in the borders and a 6" tear in the left of the bottom border, with a pinhole in each top corner.
