An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Chapter #6 (Atom Man's Challenge) One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Atom Man vs. Superman, the 1950 Spencer Gordon Bennet comic book superhero serial ("Trapped by deadly fumes"; "Bomb of Death!"; "The Man of Steel strikes!"; "Blasted in the Sky!"; "Kryptonite renders Superman helpless!"; "High-tension death-trap!"; "Based on the Superman adventure feature appearing in Superman and Action Comics magazines coast to coast. Adapted from the Superman radio program."; based on the famous DC Comics comic book character) starring Kirk Alyn (in the title role as Superman/Clark Kent), Lyle Talbot (in the title role as Lex Luthor/The Atom Man), Noel Neill (who later repeated her role as Lois Lane in the TV series, after Phyllis Coates left the show), Tommy Bond (as Jimmy Olsen), Pierre Watkin (as Perry White), and Terry Frost. Note that this was the second Superman serial (the first was simply titled "Superman", and was released in 1948, with the same actors as in this serial). Artist: Glenn Cravath Important Added Info: Note that, for unknown reasons, almost every example of a one-sheet from this movie that has survived is in much lesser condition! It is likely because of the paper stock that was used. It must have had a very high acid content, because the surviving posters I have seen all have turned a pretty dark brown, and all are extremely fragile, and many have much paper loss. It is obviously very sad, because these are some of the coolest comic book character posters there are, but one needs to accept this, because finding one in excellent unrestored condition might take you the rest of your life! Also, note that on one-sheets for this film, the "Copyright 1950 National Comics Publications Inc." below the art of Superman in flight, can be mistaken for "1960" in the image of the poster because of the small print and the font used. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair to good. The poster had darkened, typical of almost every known one-sheet from the various chapters of this movie. The poster had many tears and areas of paper loss down the center, including in Superman's face. There were tears and areas of paper loss on the middle horizontal fold and in the left half of the bottom horizontal fold. There were also tears and paper loss around the edges. Overall, the poster was in poor to fair condition prior to linenbacking. Given the poster's great number of defects, the person who backed it did an okay job, but they did not completely restore the missing areas (especially in the bottom inset image area), and you can clearly see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects.
