An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) The Asphalt Jungle, the classic 1950 John Huston (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) crime film noir ("MGM presents the story of the city under the city."; "From a novel by W.R. Burnett"; about a "perfect robbery" with a team of top professionals, but of course, everything unravels, partially through double-crosses; perhaps the best movie of its kind!) starring Sterling Hayden, Louis Calhern, Jean Hagen, James Whitmore, Sam Jaffe (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film), John McIntire, Marilyn Monroe, Marc Lawrence, Barry Kelley, Anthony Caruso, Teresa Celli, Brad Dexter, Don Haggerty, and Daniel Clarke NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that Marilyn Monroe was a virtual unknown when this classic film noir movie was first released in 1950, and did not even receive billing on any of the posters, but because the poster designers recognized the value of having a sexy woman's image in some of the advertising, they used an image of Marilyn on some of the posters, but the primary ad campaign for this movie was a text only poster, with the words "THE ASPHALT JUNGLE", with the tagline "THE CITY UNDER THE CITY", written in a cool font and design (the one-sheet has no image whatsoever). But almost every collector considers this insert the very best poster on the title, because not only is there a headshot of Marilyn at the top along with the other top cast, but there is also a full-length Marilyn at the bottom (alongside a cool montage of the cast members seeking the fortune in diamonds that they were robbing!). What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had minor wear on the foldlines, with smudges and faint stains scattered in the poster, including in the cheek of the upper image of Marilyn and the forehead of the lower image of Marilyn. It had creases and scuffs scattered throughout, with some small tears around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, and while you can see signs of the defects when you look at it close up, the poster displays pretty well from any reasonable viewing distance. But bear the above defects and the restoration of the above defects in mind before placing a bid on this poster, and please look closely at our super-sized image to see a close up of how it displays.
