SNOW WHITE & THE SEVEN DWARFS SNOW WHITE & THE SEVEN DWARFS Dutch OR search current auctions Auction History Result 9h029 SNOW WHITE & THE SEVEN DWARFS Dutch '38 Disney cartoon classic, based on Gustaf Tenggren art Date Sold 8/21/2016Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original 1938 (from the first release of this movie in the Netherlands) Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Dutch Movie Poster (measures 25 3/4" x 34" [65 x 86 cm]) (Learn More) Walt Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the classic 1937 David Hand Walt Disney animated animation family romantic fairy-tale fantasy musical cartoon ("His first full length feature production"; "In the Marvelous Multiplane Technicolor"; "Behold The Miracle of the Movies! Coming to amaze you, charm you, thrill you!"; "With Eight new songs as catching as 'The Big Bad Wolf.'"; "To thrill you"; "Merriment!"; "Melody!"; "Magic!"; "The dwarfs sing their marching song on the way to work."; "Walt Disney's first full length feature production"; "The show sensation of the generation!"; "Wondrously filmed in all the glories of the marvelous multiplane Technicolor"; "The Screen's Supreme Thrill! 1,000 artists worked three years to give you this once-in-a-lifetime show!... A full hour and a half of the most enthralling entertainment you ever experienced... truly the miracle in motion pictures!") featuring the voices of Adriana Caselotti (in the title role as Snow White), Harry Stockwell (as the Prince), Lucille La Verne, Moroni Olsen, and Stuart Buchanan. Note that this movie is always referred to as a "1937" movie, but it actually only had a limited opening in December 1937 (no doubt to qualify for the Oscars), and then it had its wide opening in February 1938. But because it is always referred to as being from 1937, we refer to it that way as well (and of course, it is technically correct). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this wonderful poster is from the first Dutch release of this classic Disney movie, which occurred in November 1938. Of course, it was a big hit there, and the IMDb says that they also showed an English language version there in March of 1939. This poster has been overprinted at the top with "VANAF VRIJDAG 7 APRIL 1939", which translates to "From Friday 7 April 1939", which means that the particular theater that used this poster was showing it starting that date, which was six months after the movie first opened there. But it IS the original 1938 poster that has simply been overprinted at top (and since the words under the title translate to "Animated feature film in the Dutch language", we know it is from the first 1938 Dutch version, and not the 1939 English language version. WE HAVE NEVER SEEN OR AUCTIONED THIS POSTER BEFORE, AND IT IS SURELY ONE OF THE MOST RARE FIRST RELEASE SNOW WHITE POSTERS THERE IS! Note that this item is in eMoviePoster.com's special "all animation" auction! The idea for this auction began when we were consigned a remarkable collection of original 1940s Walt Disney pressbooks, mini lobby cards, and standees (and almost all of those are extremely rare ones that are hardly ever auctioned, and they almost all are in really nice condition). Once we knew we had those items, we contacted all our past consignors, and asked them to consign to this very special auction, and they REALLY came through, consigning a wonderful assortment of cartoon movie paper of all sorts. Buying from this special auction gives you an incredibly rare opportunity to obtain some of the finest cartoon animation movie paper we have ever seen, and all of them will have new owners when these auctions close, because all start at $1 with no reserve. Many of these items will likely not be auctioned again for many years to come! What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster has the overprinted play dates at top (see above). Prior to paperbacking, the poster's top 1 1/2" and top 3" were folded back at one time. The bottom approximately 1" of the poster was printed on a separate piece of paper and glued over the original bottom of the poster. Since this extends into the bottom of the border area around the title, we don't know what this means. It is surely the printed bottom of the poster (it contains a rating and printer information), and not a recreated area, but we don't know why it would be uneven as it is. We can't find another example of this poster to compare it to, because this is the only one we have ever seen! We imagine there were not many theaters in Holland at this time, so maybe the poster was changed by printing a new bottom area. But of course, it is also quite possible that someone had this poster with a tattered bottom and was able to locate the bottom of another example, and then merge them. The poster also had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and a few tiny tears and tiny bits of paper loss on some folds. It had many small pinholes in the top corners and a few others in the borders. It had some faint brown stains scattered around the edges of the poster, in the borders and the background areas. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to paperbacking. Someone paperbacked the poster and performed some restoration to the image area, and left the border areas pretty much as they were. The poster displays well, but you can see slight signs of the defects and the restoration (see our image). Please do not bid on this very rare poster unless you have read all of the above very carefully! Learn More about condition grades
