Galley ships, galley slaves, fighting corsairs, dainty damsels, harem slaves all in one master film."; "Gallant were the galleys of the Spanish Main of old, from their sterns of hammered silver to their figureheads of gold... and gallant were the oarsmen who sped them through the brine, with the swirl of foam behind them and the luring shark behind. Of love or joy or sorrow they drank the bitter lees, the servants of the oarlocks but the masters of the sea. In 1940, Warner Bros. made a new version of "The Sea Hawk", again starring Errol Flynn, but for that movie, they threw out the original Sabatini novel altogether!
