An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Campaign Book (measures 11 1/2" x 14 1/2" [29 x 37 cm]; 56 pages) (Learn More) RKO Radio Pictures, this 1941-1942 campaign book features illustrated ads promoting RKO's upcoming movies, and their biggest stars, including: Orson Welles in "Citizen Kane" (Kane is given two full pages; interestingly, it took Orson Welles so long to complete his masterpiece, that it was also announced in the campaign book from one year prior, although in that one it was called "John Citizen, U.S.A.", Citizen Kane's original working title!), "All That Money Can Buy" (referred to by its working title "The Devil and Daniel Webster"), "Suspicion" (Hitchcock, Cary Grant, and Joan Fontaine, referred to by its working title "Before the Fact"), Ginger Rogers, Bette Davis, Gary Cooper, Cary Grant, "Look Who's Laughing" (Lucille Ball and Bergen & McCarthy), "Gwangi" (Willis O'Brien), "The Gay Falcon" (George Sanders), Orson Welles (pictures and casts to be announced), "Journey Into Fear" (to be directed by Robert Stevenson, from a screenplay by Ben Hecht), "Passage to Bordeaux" (Lucille Ball), and much more! Of special note are the three full-color ads for the amazing THREE FEATURE CARTOON MOVIES Walt Disney had in production, "Fantasia", "Dumbo", and "Bambi", plus there is a full-page ad for eighteen Walt Disney cartoon shorts! This is one of the nicest of the studio yearbooks produced in the 1940s, especially because of the "Citizen Kane" and other Orson Welles ads, and the three Disney color ads. We have included images of the front cover of the book and many of the two-page spreads (but we wish we could have photographed the entire book, because there are so many great images!). Even though most of the interior pages are sepia, there is a lot of artwork interspersed with the photographic images. Note that RKO had made some of the absolute best full-color campaign books in the early 1930s, but by 1941, they were economizing and their campaign books were mostly black & white or sepia. But even they could not justify economizing on Walt Disney's THREE incredible features that he released this year, so they made an exception and gave each of those a full-color page! The entire book is professionally bound with a spiral binding, which allows you to lay the book open flat without damaging the pages (something most other yearbooks do not have). Also note that, as was often the case with these campaign books, some of the movies advertised were either never made, had their titles changed before they were released, or were made with different casts than those announced in the campaign book (I do not have time to research the titles in this campaign book to see which had changed titles or were never made, but If anyone has more information about any of these, please e-mail us and we will post it here)! Finally, note that campaign books in general are extremely rare, and the best of them have often sold for hundreds of dollars, and in the case of the very finest, thousands of dollars!
