An Original Vintage Comic Book (measures approximately 7 1/8" x 10 1/4") (Learn More) Weird Science was a science fiction comic book magazine from 1950 to 1953. This comic was published by Bill Gaines (William Gaines) through his company, EC Comics (E.C. Comics), which he inherited from his father in 1947. Edited by Al Feldstein, the bi-monthly Weird Science replaced Saddle Romances with the May 1950 issue. Although the title and format change took effect with issue 12, Gaines and Feldstein decided not to restart the numbering in order to save money on second class postage. The Post Office took note and, starting with issue #5, all the issues were numbered correctly. Because of this, Weird Science #12 could refer to either the May 1950 issue, or the actual 12th issue published in 1952. The same confusion exists for issues #13-15, #15 being the last issue published before EC reset the numbering. The comic ran 22 issues and featured science fiction stories by some of the most famous writers and artist from the early 1950s. Both comics had stories written by Gaines and Al Feldstein, and art by Wally Wood, Al Williamson, Al Feldstein, and many others, and they even adapted stories by famed science fiction writer Ray Bradbury. This was one of two EC science fiction comic titles published by Bill Gaines (later publisher of Mad Magazine). The other was Weird Fantasy. They did not sell nearly as well as the horror titles, but Gaines and Feldstein loved science fiction, and they stuck by these titles, although when sales declined, they combined them into a single title called "Weird Science-Fantasy", which then further changed to "Incredible Science Fiction". Since the ending of publication, all of the EC comics have been reprinted many, many times, in many formats, and there have been several movies and TV series based on them!
