Weird Science was a science fiction comic book magazine from 1950 to 1953. This comic was published by Bill Gaines (William Gaines) through his company, EC Comics (E.C. Comics), which he inherited from his father in 1947. Edited by Al Feldstein, the bi-monthly Weird Science replaced Saddle Romances with the May 1950 issue. Although the title and format change took effect with issue 12, Gaines and Feldstein decided not to restart the numbering in order to save money on second class postage. The Post Office took note and, starting with issue #5, all the issues were numbered correctly. Because of this, Weird Science #12 could refer to either the May 1950 issue, or the actual 12th issue published in 1952. The same confusion exists for issues #13-15, #15 being the last issue published before EC reset the numbering. The comic ran 22 issues and featured science fiction stories by some of the most famous writers and artist from the early 1950s. Both comics had stories written by Gaines and Al Feldstein, and art by Wally Wood, Al Williamson, Al Feldstein, and many others, and they even adapted stories by famed science fiction writer Ray Bradbury. This was one of two EC science fiction comic titles published by Bill Gaines (later publisher of Mad Magazine). The other was Weird Fantasy. They did not sell nearly as well as the horror titles, but Gaines and Feldstein loved science fiction, and they stuck by these titles, although when sales declined, they combined them into a single title called "Weird Science-Fantasy", which then further changed to "Incredible Science Fiction". Since the ending of publication, all of the EC comics have been reprinted many, many times, in many formats, and there have been several movies and TV series based on them!
Artist: Wally Wood
Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this comic book!

Contents: Cover by Wally Wood. Stories by Bill Gaines and Al Feldstein. Art by Wally Wood, Al Williamson, Jack Kamen, and Joe Orlando. NOTE: There are two issues in this series numbered 15. The one dated July/Aug 1950 is issue # 4 in the series. The issue pictured here, dated sept/oct 1952, is the actual # 15 in the series. (This issue was reprinted by East Coast Comics with a $1 cover and 1970's copyright date (see E.C. Classic Reprints #2). These and other changes make the reprint easy to distinguish from the original which has a 10-cent cover price and a 1950's publication date.) EC's influential New Trend title featured some legendary sci-fi and comics artists. Lonely Melvin gets his own personal harem - just add water, featuring good-girl art by Jack Kamen. Cowboys are lured by a beautiful woman into a trap set by alien ranchers, with art by Joe Orlando. Scientists accidentally travel back in time, in Al Williamson's first Weird Science story. Plus The EC "Artist of the Issue" featuring Joe Orlando, which has a special meaning for fans of the original Watchmen. Cool dinosaur cover by Wally Wood. The Martians!; Captivity; Cunning!; Miscalculation; Bum Steer. 36 pages, Full Color. Cover price $0.10.

Please note that we don't use a "comic guide" grading system, and OUR grading scale is completely different from standard comic book grading. Our "very good" is completely different from a comic book graded "very good". Note that this comic book will be sent to the winning bidder in a brand new Mylite4 protective sleeve and a full-back 100% acid-free backing board.

Note: We have 19 images of this comic book, but due to a space limitation, only TEN of the 19 images are displayed above. However, there is a "supersize" link to the right of those images that lets you see the other 9.

Note that due to the greater interest in this comic we have pictured EVERY single page of this comic, which means that you can see EVERY defect the comic has, AND get a good sense of its condition. While we gave the comic an overall condition grade (and sometimes describe the defects in words) please rely on the actual images of the comic to help you decide what YOU think its condition is, and then bid or not bid based on what you are seeing in the images. And if you have ANY doubt as to what the condition of the comic is, or whether you want it in the condition it is is, then please do not bid, as we do not want any retracted bids or returns if at all possible. If in doubt, do not bid!.

Condition: good to very good. The comic has separated at the top staple.
