A Matted Original Vintage Movie Animation Cel (measures 8 1/2" x 11" [22 x 28 cm]; entire display measures 11" x 14") (Learn More) Betty Boop and The Little King, the 1936 Dave Fleischer & Myron Waldman animated animation cartoon comedy short (produced by Max Fleischer) featuring the voice of Mae Questel (in the title role as Betty Boop), and Jack Mercer (in the title role as The Little King). Note that this short was written by Oscar E. Soglow and included his comic strip character, The Little King. Max Fleischer (along with his brother Dave) were legends and pioneers in animated films. They made the very first sound cartoon in 1924, beating Walt Disney by several years. They had great success with their Out of the Inkwell cartoons, Popeye, Betty Boop, and much more, including the Superman cartoons, widely regarded as the finest cartoons ever made! But after Walt Disney made Snow White, the Fleischers made Gulliver's Travels, which did not do well at the box office, and their next major project, Mr. Bug Goes To Town, had the bad fortune to be released two days before the attack on Pearl Harbor, and it also did poorly. At this same time, the Fleischer brothers had a major falling out, and in 1942, they split completely. After they made the last of their Superman cartoons in 1942, Paramount ceased control of their studio. Each of the brothers made a few more cartoons, but their careers were essentially over. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this is a set of three cels (each one separate, overlaid over each other) from the cartoon "Betty Boop and The Little King". The scene originally featured Betty Boop so we suspect that there was a fourth cel, but that one is no longer present. As mentioned on the back and confirmed by our consignor, this cel is from a 1950s remake and not 1936. Also note that the item comes with a "certificate of authenticity" from Gallery Lainzberg (attached to the back). Condition: very good. Learn More about condition grades
