An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Call of the Mate, the 1924 Alan James silent gambling romantic cowboy western (a wild story of a dance hall girl in a gambling casino who loves a good cowhand, but he wants no part of her because of her past, but then a gambler tries to shoot the cowhand, and the girl intercepts the bullet, and as her dying wish, she asks the cowhand to marry her so that her daughter will have a father, and he does, but then she miraculously makes a full recovery!) starring William Fairbanks, Dorothy Revier, Milton Ross, Billie Bennett, and Earl Close. Note that William Fairbanks was a German-American born Carl Uhlman, and he started in movies at the age of 22 in 1916, and he acted under his own name. In 1921, he had an inspiration and changed his name to "William Fairbanks" (although he was no relation to Douglas Fairbanks), and he started starring in mostly action movies, like Doug did at the same time, and many of William's movies involved car racing, and he did his own stunts. He had a fair amount of success in westerns and action movies, but most of his movies were made for lesser studios, and his career ended in 1928 with the coming of sound. He passed away in 1945 at the age of 50, after having contracted pneumonia. Also, note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist.
