He was one of the game show hosts who worked for Goodson-Toddman, and he hosted "To Tell the Truth" for many years, as well as the first version of "Beat the Clock" and other game shows. To comic book fans, he is best known for voicing Clark Kent/Superman, first on radio, then in the 1940s Fleischer cartoons, as well as later in 1960s TV cartoons. Collyer passed away in 1969 at the age of 61. Note that his desire to take some time off from the Superman radio show led to the creation of part of Superman lore: his vulnerability to kryptonite! When Collyer did not appear, Superman was said to be held prisoner under a trap door with a piece of the deadly green metal. Important Added Info: This album page has been personally autographed (signed) by Bud Collyer! It could be matted with a vintage or repro still and framed together to make a cool display! Our consignor is a longtime collector and dealer. In the 1970s and 1980s, he wrote to stars and asked for autographed photos and index cards, and he also sometimes purchased signed items from other dealers. He does not have a certificate of authenticity for this item, but we believe the signature to likely be authentic. As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction.
