Somerset Maugham"; a steamy tale set on a rubber plantation where the wife of the owner has an affair with a man who spurns her for a local native woman, and she shoots her lover dead, and then pleads self defense, saying she was defending her honor, but the native woman surfaces with a letter that proves the truth, and her husband goes deep in debt to buy the letter back!) starring Jeanne Eagels (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film; she died shortly after the release of this movie from a drug overdose), O.P. Heggie, Reginald Owen, Herbert Marshall (in his second movie role!; he also played a different role in the 1940 version of this film starring Bette Davis), Irene Browne, and Lady Tsen Mei NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that first release 1929 movie posters from this movie are incredibly rare. We have never sold even a single first release U.S. poster from this movie until we received this insert! A talented restorer gel backed the poster (meaning they backed the poster onto a gel material) and they then performed excellent restoration to the defects described below, and then removed the gel backing, so that the poster still exactly looks and feels like an original poster (and it is!), with no backing at all. The restoration was done really well, and the poster displays really well! Condition: good to very good. The poster was gel backed (see above). This particular poster was never folded. It had paper loss in the left of the top border, extending down 3" at the left, and going up at a diagonal and ending above the middle of Marshall's hair (only the blank borders and the solid blue and purple areas were affected). The rest of the top blank border was missing, as well as a small amount of the top of the right blank border. There were pinholes in the top of the poster, with a few stains in that area. There was a smudge in Eagles' upper lip and a 1" tear near the middle of the right blank border, with two 1/2" tears near the middle of the left blank border. There was an "ALL TALKING" snipe glued to the bottom blank area and some stains scattered down the lower part of the right blank border. The poster was in "good to very good" condition prior to restoration. It was gel backed by a talented professional and expert restoration was performed to the above defects. The poster displays great, and best of all, it still completely looks and feels like an unrestored poster! Learn More about condition grades
