An Original Vintage 6 1/2" x 8 1/2" [17 x 22 cm] News Photo (Learn More) Groucho Marx (of the Marx Brothers) was a comedian/actor from the 1920s to the 1960s. Some of his movies include: Duck Soup, A Night at the Opera, Horse Feathers, A Day at the Races, Animal Crackers, and Monkey Business AND James Cagney was a famous actor from the 1930s to the 1980s. He was a huge success in crime movies in the early 1930s (almost always playing a gangster), and that unfortunately typecast him in those roles, but he continually fought against it, and he made several wonderful non-gangster movies as well. Some of his movies include: The Public Enemy, Yankee Doodle Dandy (winner of the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), White Heat, Ragtime, Angels With Dirty Faces (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), The Roaring Twenties, One, Two, Three, Love Me Or Leave Me (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film) and scores of others! AND Warner Oland was a Swedish actor from the 1910s to the 1930s. Some of his movies include: The Jazz Singer, Shanghai Express, Werewolf in London, Tell It to the Marines and, of course, starring roles in all the early Fox Charlie Chan movies! Important Added Info: What a wonderful candid image of these many great stars (Groucho Marx, James Cagney, Warner Oland, George Raft, Fredric March, and Adolphe Menjou)! It was taken on October 9, 1933, when the "Actors Guild" (later the Screen Actors Guild) held a mass meeting to organize this guild "for the protection of actors in the film industry from unfair competition and the reduction of wages"! The first president was Eddie Cantor (not pictured) and the snipe tells how a total of 15 top stars left the Motion Picture Academy of Arts and Sciences because of this dispute. WHAT IS EXTRA WONDERFUL ABOUT THIS PHOTO IS THAT THE PERSON WHO WROTE THE CAPTION MISIDENTIFIED GROUCHO AS CHICO, AND SOMEONE ELSE DREW A LINE AND WROTE IN GROUCHO IN PENCIL! Also note that this news photo measures 6 1/2" x 8 1/2" [17 x 22 cm]. Condition: very good. The news photo is lightly rippled around the edges but is otherwise in pretty nice condition!
