She was born in 1865, and by 1918, she had done so much (including supporting the English troops in World War I), that she was named Dame Commander of the British Empire, thus becoming "Dame May Whitty", and since most of her movies were made after that, she was always billed in that way. Some of her movies include: Night Must Fall (nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film), The Lady Vanishes, Suspicion, Gaslight, and Mrs. Miniver (nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film). She passed away in 1948 at the age of 82. Important Added Info: Note that this photo has been personally autographed (signed) by Dame May Whitty! Also note that this is a deluxe signed photo printed on double weight paper stock. Our consignor is a longtime collector who purchased this signed item from a reputable dealer.
