Date Sold 7/9/2023 Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. a lot of 9 8" x 10" glass negatives of silent stars. Most people don't know that before film negatives, photographers made negatives etched in glass! Obviously, a major drawback to this was that the glass negatives were fragile and could be easily broken. In the 1920s, everyone switched to film negatives, but some glass negatives from the 1910s and earlier still survive, and this auction includes nine of them, which measure 8" x 10" (and of course, they will have to be very carefully packaged in a box when they are sent to the winning bidder). Note that the items in this lot are mostly from the 1910s. The stars pictured are Dorothy Gish, Beverly Bayne, Billie Dove, Charlie Chaplin, Helene Chadwick, Jack Holt, William S. Hart, and there are two we cannot identify. If anyone knows more about these, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Measurements: 8" x 10"Condition: good to very good.
