An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Key Book Still (Learn More) Sold for Marriage, the 1916 Christy Cabanne silent romantic love triangle immigration melodrama (about a poor Russian girl who is brought to the U.S. by her uncle, who intends to sell her into marriage to a rich man, but her Russian boyfriend comes to the U.S. and saves her) starring Lillian Gish, Walter Long, Frank Bennett, Allan Sears, and Pearl Elmore NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we can't say for certain this still is from this movie. Lillian Gish is clearly pictured, and there is writing on the bottom of the back that indicates it is from 1916. Someone at a later time wrote "don't know this" on the back of the still and then later still, someone else wrote "Lillian Gish Flirting With Fate 1916", which was obviously a guess, because she is not in that movie. She DID make "Sold For Marriage" in 1916, so we think it is almost surely from that movie. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Note that the still is glued to a thin linen-like backing (we think it is highly likely this was a key book still, and that someone trimmed away the extra 1" from the left of the still, no doubt so it could be put in a frame). Note that not only does our current auction of 999 stills represent the absolute finest selection we have ever had in terms of quality of image and film, but it also represents the finest CONDITION group of stills we have ever had! Half of the stills are graded as being in "very good to fine" condition (which is our highest grade for vintage stills), but we were very strict on this, because otherwise, perhaps two thirds or three quarters of the stills would have received this grade! We downgraded stills to "very good" for pretty minor defects, and many of these might have received our "very good to fine" grade in the past. And the half of the stills that ARE in very good to fine condition would likely be graded "mint" by any other auction! This is the finest group of stills I have ever seen, and I can only hope to equal it someday! Condition: good to very good. There are some faint smudges and a few small tears in the borders. The still is slightly "lifting" from the linen in the bottom center. Learn More about condition grades
