An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) The Knight Before Christmas, the 1926 Arvid E. Gilstrom silent holiday comedy short ("Another one of the 'Bill Grimm's Progress'"; "The famous H.C. Witwer Collier's weekly stories") starring Al Cooke, Kit Guard, Margaret Morris, Jack Luden, and John Gough. Note that this is the 12th and final release in the "Bill Grimm's Progress" comedy series. Also note that H.C. Witwer is virtually forgotten today, but in his time (the 1920s), he was perhaps America's foremost short story writer of stories dealing with sports, and he published over 400 stories in his lifetime, which was not a long life, because he sadly died in 1929 from liver failure, and surely would have written a great many more stories had he lived longer (he was just 39 when he died). Many of his stories were adapted into films, including "The Leather Pushers" series of boxing movies, and the "Racing Blood" series of horse racing movies, among many others. In 1929, he sued Harold Lloyd for plagiarism of one of his short stories in Lloyd's "The Freshman", and he died during the trial, but his wife continued the lawsuit after his death, and she was awarded $2.3 million (in 1929 dollars!), but the judgement was overturned, and she received nothing. Witwer produced some of the movies made from his stories, and it is sad that he is so completely forgotten. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that movie paper from this film is incredibly rare. We have never auctioned even a single movie paper item from this movie until we were consigned this poster! Condition: fair to good. The poster was exposed to moisture while folded, which has caused substantial separation along portions of the vertical foldline and folds. The vertical foldline is held together by small paper, and one must be very careful attempting to handle this poster. The poster is in urgent need of restoration. Certainly a top restorer can repair the defects described above, and after, the poster will display really well, but please bear in mind the poster's many defects and the cost of restoration before placing a bid.
