An Unfolded French Travel Poster (measures 29 1/2" x 41 1/4" [75 x 105 cm]) (Learn More) Chemins De Fer De l'Etat (literally translates to "State Railways"), often referred to in France as the Reseau de l'Etat ("State Network"), was an early state-owned French railway company. It was established by state order of the Third Republic in 1878 to take over ten small failing railway companies operating in the area between the rivers Loire and Garonne. In 1938, all French railway companies merged to form SNCF (Societe Nationale des Chemins de fer Francais - the French National Railway). Artist: E. Couronneau Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare poster. We have never auctioned one in all our years of auctioning! Condition: good. The poster was never folded. It has some pretty significant creases, defects, areas of paper loss and tears of varying lengths along parts of some edges (see our image). Some of the tears are backed with conservation tape. The edges are slightly fragile. After proper restoration the poster will display well, but bear in mind the poster's condition and the cost of restoration before bidding on it.
