An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Port of Seven Seas, the 1938 James Whale romantic love triangle melodrama ("It's More Exciting than 'Bad Man of Brimstone'!"; "From the play 'Fanny' by Marcel Pagnol"; "Screen Play by Preston Sturges"; "Bad man of brimstone's new thriller!"; NOBODY remembers this first American version of Pagnol's classic tragic love story, but it combined the talents of Pagnol with Preston Sturges and James Whale!) starring Wallace Beery, Frank Morgan, Maureen O'Sullivan (as Madelon), John Beal, and Jessie Ralph. Note that in the original French play, the female lead was named "Fanny". Apparently, MGM refused to use that as a title, likely afraid that audiences would titter at the word "Fanny", so they changed the character's name to "Madelon", and that was intended to be the name of the movie, but at the last minute, it was changed to "Port of Seven Seas", no doubt because no one knew what "Madelon" meant. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: good. There are pinholes and stains around the edges. There are a few smudges and dot stains scattered in the card, including in O'Sullivan's cheek and chin (see our images). Note that this lobby card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back! This is the sort of card that responds really well to professional restoration. It is likely that much or all of the stains can be removed through chemical means, after which the card will look fantastic. Learn More about condition grades
