Note that this movie is based on the novel, "Michael Strogoff: The Courier of the Czar" written by Jules Verne in 1876. Apparently, this was an incredibly popular action novel of that time, and over the years, there have been around a dozen film adaptations, both silent and sound! Sometimes the lead character's name is changed slightly so as to not sound foreign to the country that made the movie. Note that there was a sequel to this movie in 1961 called "Le triomphe de Michel Strogoff" with the same actors.
