Appears in Vintage Hollywood Posters 7 CATALOG SOLD OUT The image at right appears in the auction catalog we published as shown above and was sold long ago and we do NOT have it available for purchase. An Original Vintage Theatrical Autographed Movie Lobby Card (measures 11" x 14") (Learn More) Singin' in the Rain, the classic 1952 Stanley Donen & Gene Kelly romantic musical comedy (considered by most the best musical of all time!; "What a glorious feeling"; "MGM's Technicolor Musical Treasure!"; "Suggested by the song 'Singin' In the Rain'"; about a Hollywood movie studio in the late 1920s that wants to begin making sound pictures, but their top leading lady has a dreadful voice, plus they have great difficulties adapting to the sound equipment; pretty young Debbie Reynolds comes along to dub in the singing voice of the primadonna leading lady, played to perfection by Jean Hagen) starring Gene Kelly (as Don Lockwood), Donald O'Connor (as Cosmo Brown), Debbie Reynolds (as Kathy Selden), Jean Hagen (nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film; as Lina Lamont), Millard Mitchell (as R.F. Simpson), and Cyd Charisse (unnamed, only referred to as "Dancer"). Note that this greatest of all Hollywood musicals had an odd beginning! The title song had been sung in "The Hollywood Revue of 1929" by Cliff Edwards, and that inspired this movie, and in addition, the song "Make 'Em Laugh" was basically plagiarized from "Be a Clown", from "The Pirate"! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this card was personally signed by Gene Kelly. While we can't say for 100% certainty that this signature is authentic, this card was obtained from a long-time Los Angeles dealer who made a practice of obtaining "better" movie posters and lobby cards and then tracking down the stars to get them signed. Personally, I feel sure this autograph is authentic, but please do not bid on this card unless you can accept that we cannot 100% guarantee that. Also please note that on this classic movie, and on several other classic movies of the 1950s, MGM issued two entirely different sets of lobby cards! One set was the kind that is regularly seen. The other kind was a "photolobby" set with glossier color scenes from the movie, most often entirely different from the other set, and sometimes including one or two vertical images (something virtually never seen on lobby cards). The card offered here is from the photolobby set from "Singin' in the Rain", and it is a great vertical card that shows a solo image of Gene Kelly holding an umbrella superimposed over artwork images of many umbrellas in the clouds (and of course it is the ultimate card to have Gene Kelly autograph!). Condition: very good. many pairs of staple holes around the edges of the card (all are in the blank borders); light blue stains in the blank corners; a few light creases across the top 2" of the card and one slightly more prominent crease extending down 3" in the top right corner of the image background; None of these defects are really very significant. The blank border defects could easily be restored or matted out, and the light creases at the top are really not visible unless the card is turned to the light. If framed just as it is, this great card looks sensational! Learn More about condition grades
