An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Long Australian Daybill Movie Poster (db; measures 15" x 37" [38 x 94 cm]) (Learn More) Mississippi Gambler, the 1929 Reginald Barker romantic riverboat poker gambling melodrama ("He thought he could beat anyone at cards - until he sat in a game with Cupid."; a wild story of a riverboat gambler who wins a large amount of money from a southern gentleman that he had borrowed; the gentleman prepares to commit suicide because of his disgrace, but his beautiful daughter goes to the gambler and demands he return the money, and the gambler offers to play her a hand of poker, and if she wins, he will return the money to her father, but if he wins, she will go to bed with him!; he loses the hand and gives her the money, but she later discovers that he actually folded the winning hand, and she pledges her love to him!) starring Joseph Schildkraut, Joan Bennett (extremely young in her first major role!), Carmelita Geraghty, and Alec B. Francis. Note that Joseph Schildkraut had just played a riverboat gambler in the hugely successful "Show Boat" (the 1929 version), and so he was rushed into this movie, to capitalize on his success from that movie. Also note that this movie was filmed in both sound and silent versions, and the sound version exists, but the transcription discs (containing the sound) have sadly been lost. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Fred Brodrick Important Added Info: Note that original 1929 movie posters from this film are incredibly scarce! We have never auctioned or heard of a single 1929 movie poster from ANY country, before being consigned this poster (which has a great artwork image by Fred Brodrick, which shows gambler Joseph Schildkraut at a poker table with many chips and a Royal Flush behind him). Also note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: good. There is much light staining throughout the poster. There are tears and areas of paper loss around the edges. Certainly, a talented restorer could likely remove some or many of the stains through chemical means, but please read our description above and look at our super-sized image before placing a bid on this poster.
