An Undated (probably 1939) Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) 'Neath the Arizona Skies, the 1934 Harry L. Fraser cowboy western (based on the story, "Gun Glory", by Burl R. Tuttle) starring John Wayne (who also did stunts but was uncredited), Sheila Terry, Shirley Jean Rickert, George 'Gabby' Hayes, Jack Rockwell, and Yakima Canutt NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that when Monogram was re-releasing the early John Wayne movies in the late 1930s, an inattentive poster letterer incorrectly put the name of this movie as "'Neath Arizona Skies" instead of "'Neath the Arizona Skies"! Also note that all one-sheets from John Wayne movies that were printed in the 1930s can be extremely difficult to date (unless, of course, the poster is actually dated). This is because John Wayne was so popular in the 1930s, that his movies were often re-released, and sometimes the re-release posters contain all new artwork, sometimes the equal of the first release posters. The greatest number of 1930s re-releases occurred in late 1939 after Wayne's great success in "Stagecoach" and "Allegheny Uprising". Warner Brothers re-released his early Vitagraph movies at that time, and Monogram re-released his early Lone Star movies at that time. The Warner Brothers posters say "Star of Stagecoach and Allegheny Uprising", but the Monogram posters are more difficult to date. It is generally believed that the Monogram posters that credit Gabby Hayes on the poster date from around 1939, as he became a well-known star at this time as well. IN ANY EVENT, THESE LATE 1930s RE-RELEASE POSTERS ARE JUST AS RARE AS THE ORIGINALS! In some cases, no one has ever seen even a single example of the "first release" poster. 1930s John Wayne posters are so rare, that one must be willing to accept a re-release, especially if it has striking art! Condition: very good. 4" of separation at the top of the vertical fold (repaired with tape from the back); 3" of separation at the left of the top foldline, with a 2" diagonal tear next to it; 5" of clean separation in the top foldline to the left of the top crossfold; tiny holes at the crossfolds; pairs of staple holes across the middle foldline; pairs of staple holes, creases, light smudges, and tiny tears around the edges of the poster. The poster is in better condition than the above makes it sound! Its defects are relatively minor, and are the type that respond extremely well to restoration. After linenbacking by a talented professional, the poster would look wonderful, and there would be little paint anywhere on the poster! Learn More about condition grades
