A Linenbacked French Advertising Poster (measures 44 1/4" x 59 3/4" [112 x 152 cm]) (Learn More) Legeres Comme une Gazelle (literally translates to "Light as a Gazelle"), the circa 1935 French advertising poster promoting the purchase of Gazelle footwear, and featuring Robys art of the available products. It has an image of floating shoes over an open shoe box (against an art deco background), and the shoe box lid cleverly forms a blank area where specific stores could overprint their information, thus serving as a stock poster. Artist: Robys Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair to good. The poster had minor wear on the folds and some smudges and scuffs scattered in the image, primarily in the background areas. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but at some point after it was backed, something occurred that caused it to lose a small portion of the right border that extended into the bottom of the letters of "EDITION", and the poster is now "lifting" from the linen where the paper loss is. It also acquired a 3" diagonal crease in the top right, entering the bottom of the "z" of "Gazelle". Certainly, a restorer could repair this damage (either with or without re-backing the poster), but bear all this in mind before bidding on this poster. Learn More about condition grades
