Franklin & Sidney Franklin silent fantasy adventure ("Big Fox Cinema Spectacle"; "A Picture for Young and Old"; "The Fox Kiddies in Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp"; "A Story Known the World Over"; "Another Wonderful Photoplay Made in California and Hawaii by Those Brilliant Fox Kiddies"; "Gorgeous Exteriors --- Beautiful Interiors"; "A Picture That Will Live Forever") starring Francis Carpenter (in the title role as Aladdin), F.A. Turner, Virginia Lee Corbin (as Princess Badr al-Budur), Alfred Paget, Violet Radcliffe, Buddy Messinger, and Gertrude Messinger (as Yasmini, lady-in-waiting to the princess), and Elmo Lincoln (as the Magic Genie). This was the brainstorm of William Fox, who had the idea of filming classic fairy tales with children in the lead roles, supported by adults in the lesser roles! And it appears that the studio spared no expense in creating sets just as elaborate as those used in their regular productions like Cleopatra and Salome. We know of this movie and "Jack and the Beanstalk", and there were likely others. They used the "Fox Kiddies" in the lead roles. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Note that reviews of this movie especially single out Francis Carpenter in the title role, and they mention how brilliant his acting is in the "sandstorm" sequence, where he nearly dies! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that these stills are surely originals from 1917. Each has a very large stamp on the back which has all of the tagline information that we listed above (about the Fox Kiddies and more). What's more, not only do they show the elaborate sets and costumes created for this movie, but there is also a still showing the star in the "sandstorm" sequence, emoting his heart out! We auctioned these stills in 2016 and now those same stills have been reconsigned to us for this auction, and they are the only movie paper we have ever auctioned for this movie! Condition: very good. Some of the stills have some border defects, but overall, they are in really nice condition, especially considering they are 100 years old! Learn More about condition grades
