An Original Vintage Theatrical 7" x 9" [18 x 23 cm] Movie Still (Learn More)

The Law of the Range, the 1928 William Nigh silent gambling cowboy western ("Story by Norman Houston"; Tim McCoy must capture the evil Solitaire Kid, and it turns out that they are actually brothers!) starring Tim McCoy, Joan Crawford, Rex Lease (as The Solitaire Kid), Bodil Rosing, Tenen Holtz, and Hank Bell. Note that Joan Crawford starred in this movie, as she did in several other westerns very early in her career. This movie was released after she achieved stardom in "The Unknown", but was surely made prior to it, which would explain why she did not receive billing on the movie paper. Also, note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. Finally, note that Tenen Holtz was a Russian Jewish actor born Alexander Elihu Tenenholtz. He was in Yiddish theater starting at the turn of the century, and in 1916, he helped Bessie Thomashevsky write her memoirs, and in 1925, he co-founded a theater company with Celia and Stella Adler. The following year, he signed a 5-year MGM contract, and from then until 1939, he appeared in 57 movies. He is an important figure among Jewish stage and movie actors.
