An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Other Company One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) A Slight Case of Murder, the 1938 Lloyd Bacon mob alcohol liquor bootlegging organized crime comedy thriller (based on the play by Damon Runyon) ("Edward G. Robinson in Damon Runyon's blazing story of the Mobster who murdered and laughed!") starring Edward G. Robinson, Jane Bryan, Margaret Hamilton, Allen Jenkins, Willard Parker, Ruth Donnelly, Edward Brophy, Harold Huber, Bobby Jordan, Paul Harvey, and George E. Stone NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this was printed by the "other company". This was a company in the Midwest that from 1936 to 1940 printed its own one-sheets and lobby card sets for three major studio movies (Warner Bros., Paramount and United Artists, but no other studios). The posters and lobby cards are from the original release of the movie, and almost always have completely different artwork from the regular studio release. They never have the name of the releasing studio on the poster or any of the lobby cards. Sometimes, "other company" posters or lobby cards have sold for more than the regular studio release posters or lobby cards! Condition: very good. This poster was linenbacked, and it had defects which were repaired during the linenbacking process (which we describe below, as well as the quality of the restoration, if I thought there was something about the restoration worth commenting on!). You should also look at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). there was tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and a tiny area of paper loss just below Robinson's nose; there was a circular hole around the size of a dime at the left of the middle foldline in the yellow background area; there were pinholes and smudges around the edges of the poster. The poster had missing pieces and tears in the blank borders, and the person who did the restoration put new blank white paper over all the borders to even out the appearance (but the small writing at the bottom of the poster was not covered over). This is a common technique used by several top restorers. It is done so well that the majority of collectors are not even aware it has been done, and many do not feel it to be a significant detraction (since it is only blank white area). Overall, the poster was nicely linenbacked, and looks quite nice! Learn More about condition grades
