An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Style D One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) The Shopworn Angel, the 1938 H.C. Potter New York City Coney Island World War I (WWI) military romantic melodrama ("Screen Play by Waldo Salt"; "From a story by Dana Burnet"; about a Texas soldier who goes on leave in New York City, and he accidentally meets a beautiful Broadway actress, and she agrees to pretend to be his girlfriend to impress his friends, but then a real romance begins) starring Margaret Sullavan, James Stewart (Jimmy Stewart), Walter Pidgeon, Nat Pendleton, and Alan Curtis. Note that this was a remake of a 1928 movie of the same name starring Gary Cooper and Nancy Carroll! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this one-sheet is rarely offered for sale. We have only auctioned one one-sheet from this movie, and that was 16 years ago, and we are not sure if it was this style D, or the style C, but in either case, we have only ever auctioned one other one-sheet, and no other first release U.S. posters, which shows just how rare this poster is! Note that this one-sheet is one of the 28 folded one-sheets in this Part I of eMoviePoster.com's December Major Auction that were not consigned to us by Dominique Besson. It was consigned to us by another collector, but that in no way diminishes this poster, and it fits well with the Besson collection. What is the Dominique Besson collection? He started collecting movie posters in 1981, and became a dealer in French and European posters in 1994, and has remained as a top dealer ever since! But in addition, 30 years ago, Dominique began collecting U.S. one-sheets, first those with Saul Bass art, and then adding Alfred Hitchcock posters, then Humphrey Bogart, and he finally ended up collecting in an amazing total of 47 different categories, purchasing the posters from all over the world! Now the time has come to sell this wonderful collection, and Dominique has chosen eMoviePoster.com to do so, through our auctions! This is not all of the Dominique Besson collection we are auctioning. In addition, there are approximately 200 more folded one-sheets that will be in Part IV of this special auction (ones from the 1970s to present), and there are approximately 100 unfolded one-sheets that will be in Part III (including many great ones). This is a very rare opportunity to purchase folded one-sheets (all of which have had no professional restoration) from one of the greatest one-sheet collections assembled! Note that while Mr. Besson collected a few 1930s posters, he included them in other categories, so this one-sheet is being auctioned in a category that we have labeled "1930s" (there are only five of those). Condition: good to very good. The top 2" was folded back at one time. There are pinholes, smudges, and a few faint stains around the edges, and a few smudges and tiny stains scattered in the image. The poster is lightly rippled and creased throughout. It had two pieces of tape on the back of the upper left border that were removed, making the paper thinner in that area (on the front it is in the background above the "J" of "JAMES"). The poster could absolutely be displayed and enjoyed as it is, or one could choose to have the above defects corrected through linenbacking.
