An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Silver Comes Thru, the 1927 Lloyd Ingraham silent horse racing gambling cowboy western (based on a story by Frank M. Clifton; produced by Joseph P. Kennedy; about a cowboy who is given a beautiful white horse to train for a major race, and the owner of the horse bets his entire ranch and everything he has on the race, and the horse is kidnapped just before the race, but the cowboy gets the horse back just in time, and in the climax of the movie, rides the horse to victory!) starring Fred Thomson (billed as "Fred Thomson and his miracle Horse Silver king"), Edna Murphy, William Courtright, Harry Woods, and Silver King ("The Horse with a Personality"). Note that producer Joseph P. Kennedy was of course the father of Joe, John, Bobby, and Teddy Kennedy, and had a well publicized love affair with Gloria Swanson for many years! Note that Fred Thomson's horse, Silver King, is not nearly as well known as the other most famous movie cowboys' horses (like Tony and Trigger), but that is surely partly because of Fred Thomson's early untimely death. The advertising for this movie shows that Silver King was a major star, because he is billed as "the horse with a personality". He got this nickname because he could do things no other horse could do, like wink one eye, and he was expert at nodding his head and acting as though he understood everything said to him. After Thomson's death, he became Hal Taliaferro's horse, and then he appeared to retire in 1934. According to the IMDb, he came out of retirement in 1938 to play "Silver" in the first Lone Ranger serial in 1938, but we can't verify that. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Also, note that star Fred Thomson was a major silent cowboy star (along with Tom Mix), but he is forgotten today, because he tragically died of tetanus just when sound movies started.
