An Original 1944 (from the first release of this movie in Australia) Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Australian Daybill Movie Poster (db; measures 10" x 30" [25 x 76 cm]) (Learn More) So Proudly We Hail, the 1943 Mark Sandrich World War II (WWII) Home Front patriotic military hospital medical nurse romantic melodrama ("First great love story of our girls at the fighting front!"; "Three brilliant stars, bringing you all the romance, excitement, laughter, and and heroic sweep, of American girls in uniform under fire!"; "A foxhole was her honeymoon hotel!"; "Women of daring... in battle and in love!"; "No female is going to bathe me!"; "If you don't wait for me, I'll break your neck!"; ) starring Claudette Colbert, Paulette Goddard (nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film), Veronica Lake, George Reeves, Barbara Britton, Walter Abel, Sonny Tufts (billed as "introducing Sonny Tufts"), and Lorna Gray NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Richardson Studio Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this Australian daybill, and that was 11 years ago! The buyer of that poster had it linenbacked, and they have now reconsigned it to us, so this is still the only example we have ever auctioned! Note that this is one of an amazing collection of 62 linenbacked Australian daybills that all have great art from Richardson Studio (or John Richardson, before he became "Richardson Studio"!), which many collectors feel have the best art and design of any Australian daybills, and are highly sought after by collectors. These were accumulated by a very dedicated collector over many years, and they are now being all offered at once (in 62 separate auctions), so this is a wonderful opportunity to obtain one or many of these daybills, many of which rarely are offered for sale or at auction. Also note that for a brief time during World War II (WWII) Australia printed their daybills in a 10" x 30" format (no doubt to conserve on paper, because they had been printing daybills in a 15" x 40" size, and by going to 10" x 30", they were able to print four daybills with the same amount of paper they used to print two!). The poster is NOT trimmed! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair. The poster had several areas of paper loss around the edges. There were some stains around the edges of the poster. Overall, the poster was in fair condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. Learn More about condition grades
