An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Title Lobby Card (LC TC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More)

The Midnight Son, the 1926 Arvid E. Gillstrom silent comedy short ("Another one of Bill Grimm's Progress"; "From the famous H. C. Witwer Collier's Weekly Stories"; sixth release in the "Bill Grimm's Progress" 2-reel comedy series; produced by Joseph P. Kennedy) starring Al Cooke, Kit Guard, Jack Luden, and Margaret Morris. Note that producer Joseph P. Kennedy was of course the father of Joe, John, Bobby, and Teddy Kennedy, and had a well publicized love affair with Gloria Swanson for many years! Also note that H.C. Witwer is virtually forgotten today, but in his time (the 1920s), he was perhaps America's foremost short story writer of stories dealing with sports, and he published over 400 stories in his lifetime, which was not a long life, because he sadly died in 1929 from liver failure, and surely would have written a great many more stories had he lived longer (he was just 39 when he died). Many of his stories were adapted into films, including "The Leather Pushers" series of boxing movies, and the "Racing Blood" series of horse racing movies, among many others. In 1929, he sued Harold Lloyd for plagiarism of one of his short stories in Lloyd's "The Freshman", and he died during the trial, but his wife continued the lawsuit after his death, and she was awarded $2.3 million (in 1929 dollars!), but the judgement was overturned, and she received nothing. Witwer produced some of the movies made from his stories, and it is sad that he is so completely forgotten.

Condition: good. There are tiny pencil marks in the face of the man at left. There is a 1 1/2" L-shaped tear in the upper left corner (that corner is almost completely detached). There are a few creases, smudges, and pinholes in around the edges, but the card is otherwise in pretty good condition! Note that this lobby card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back!
