An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) Terry-Toons, a 1940 stock poster used by theaters that show Terrytoons cartoons. Note that the poster includes images of many of Paul Terry's cartoon characters at that time, including a very large image of Dinky Duck! Note that Paul Terry created a different "stock" poster for each year from 1937 through 1940 (there may have been ones from earlier or later years, but we have never encountered them). Each would have a completely different great image, showing many of his top cartoon stars of that year, and there would be a blank center area in each poster. After the color posters were printed, they would overprint a group of the posters with a title of a particular cartoon from that year (sometimes they would add a single-color image from that cartoon, and sometimes they would put the title in very large letters), and then they would print another group of the posters with a different cartoon title and image, and so on. It seems likely that the advent of World War II caused Terry to stop making a different stock poster for each year, and that they simply re-used the 1940 posters throughout the war. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: very good. This poster was linenbacked, and one of the following is true: either the poster had very minor defects, and was well backed, OR it had more significant defects, but they were well restored, OR it had some minor defects that were not completely restored, and are somewhat noticeable. You can tell which of the above is the case for this particular poster by reading our "pre-restoration" description and also by looking at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). The poster had minor fold and border wear, and some smudges and creases throughout. There was small paper loss in the center of the top blank border. The person who backed the poster pretty much just backed the poster as is. Note that the restorer who mounted the poster did not leave any excess linen around the edges of the poster.
