An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded French One-Panel "Grande" Movie Poster (1p; measures 46 3/4" x 63" [119 x 160 cm]) (Learn More)

Macadam (released in the U.S. in 1948 as "Back Streets of Paris"), the 1946 Jacques Feyder & Marcel Elistene French bad girl romantic love triangle film noir (a very complicated story about a Frenchwoman who runs a run down hotel with the help of her meek daughter; the mother killed the husband years ago and is constantly involved in shady dealings while the daughter tries to keep the hotel going; a gangster accomplice of the mother's, who has made a giant score, comes with a suitcase full of money, and asks her to hold it; meanwhile, there is a street merchant who gets involved with the "good" daughter, and the very "bad" young Simone Signoret, and there are constant plot twists, and nothing ends the way you would imagine it would!) starring Francoise Rosay, Paul Meurisse, Andree Clement, Simone Signoret, Andre Roanne, Paul Demange Bever, Felix Oudart, and Jacques Dacqmine. Note that this movie is forgotten today except by major film buffs, and that is sad, both because it is a French film that predates the New Wave by quite a bit, and it has great direction by Jacques Feyder, a major French director, and top performances from its actors!

Artist: Bernard Lancy
Important Added Info: Note that this is a "country of origin" poster for this French movie, which is from the first French release in 1946. Note that this is an extremely rare French poster from right before World War II! Virtually no French posters survive from the mid 1940s or earlier. Apparently there were many paper shortages in France during World War II, resulting in the destruction of almost all posters from before World War II, and also from during the war, and the first few years afterwards!

Condition: good.
