An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Italian One-Panel (known in Italy as a "2 Fogli") Movie Poster (1p; measures 39" x 55" [99 x 140 cm]) (Learn More) The Shrike, the 1955 Jose Ferrer New York City Broadway theater stage acting troubled marriage melodrama ("Destined to be the most talked about Motion Picture of the Year!"; "Every shocking emotion of the great Pulitzer Prize play!"; "All the startling intimacy of the Pulitzer Prize play!"; "'Don't call me a Shrike until you've heard my story... any woman would use whatever weapons she has - to hold the man she loves. ...And any wife will know why I did the things I did!'"; "Based on the play by Joseph Kramm"; about a Broadway director who is recovering in a hospital after an attempted suicide, and he is visited daily by his wife, who appears saintly to outsiders, but actually is a terrible shrew who drove him to attempt suicide in the first place!) starring Jose Ferrer, June Allyson, Joy Page, Kendall Clark, Isabel Bonner, and Edward Platt. Note that this movie was extremely odd casting for the very likeable June Allyson, and the screenwriters of the movie tried to make her character more likeable, which had the effect of hurting the underlying message of the movie. The movie would surely have been far better with the star of the Broadway production (also directed by and starring Jose Ferrer), Judith Evelyn, in the role of the wife. Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had small tears and tiny areas of paper loss scattered on parts of several folds, with a few creases and scuffs scattered in the solid black areas. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. Also, there are two tiny areas near the center of the image where there is not restoration, and one small area of paper loss in the top center of the poster where there is no restoration. Either the restorer did not do those, or more likely, they occurred after the poster was backed. They are not very distracting, and any restorer could touch up those areas without re-backing the poster. Learn More about condition grades
