What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds, with more paper loss in the top horizontal fold to the left of the crossfold. It had some small tears in the bottom 8" of the vertical fold, with paper loss in the center of the bottom border, and darkening across the bottom of the bottom blank border. It had smudges scattered down the right edge of the image and paper loss in the top center of the image, with paper loss in the top border above it. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. We would think that any talented restorer could finish the restoration of the poster without re-backing it, or, of course, the poster could be displayed as it is.
